FC Basel is a well known Swiss football club based in Basel which was founded in 1893.                                                                                                     
Basel is one of the most victorious clubs in Swiss football, as they have been Swiss Super League champions 12 times, which is the third most for any Swiss club. The team was the most successful throughout the late 1960's and 1970's. Basel was Swiss Super League champions seven times between 1967 and 1980. However, the team went through a rough patch in the 1980's, as they did not compete in the European tournament for many years and were even demoted in 1987. Basel restored their place at the top of Swiss football in the 2000's after winning their first championship in 2002 after 22 years. The team won another three titles in 2004, 2005 and 2008.                                     
Basel has played in European tournaments every season since the 1999-2000 season. The team also made it to the 2002 UEFA Intertoto Cup final, but was defeated by Aston Villa. Basel made it to the Second Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League in the 2002-2003 season and got through to the Quarter-Finals of the 2005-2006 UEFA Cup.                                                          
 The team's home kit includes a red and blue striped shirt, blue shorts, and blue socks with red trim. Basel's away kit is comprised of a silver jersey with blue trim, silver shorts, and silver socks.
