Bordeaux, France is the home of the football club, FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Normally known as just Bordeaux, the club was formed in 1881.

Bordeaux was originally founded as a multi-sport club. It was not until 1910 that football became the main and central sport of Girondins de Bordeaux. In 1919 the Girondins played their first premier match officially renamed FC Girondis.

Bordeaux’s Stadium, originally called Parc Lescure was renamed after the mayor Jaques Chaban-Delmas, and is currently reffered to as Stade Chaban Delamas. Bordeaux has been a successful team over its long history and has qualified for European Football many times. The club has won the French league five times the most recent win coming in 1999. In 2008, Bordeaux won the Trophee des Champions for the second time.

In 1996, Bordeaux achieved its greatest accomplishment to date when they won the UEFA cup final. The Girondins did not have an easy road to the cup final. First the club won the Intertoto Cup just to be placed in the UEFA cup tournament. In the tournament, Bordeaux beat AC Milan, Slavia Prague, Vardar Skopje, Rotor Volgograd, and Real Betis. The most important win was the Cup championship when they beat Bordelais 5-1. 

In 2001, Girondins de Bordeaux became the subsidiary company to M6, a French Television group.
The team's customary home kit includes a blue jersey, blue shorts, and blue socks. Their current away kit consists of a white shirt, white shorts, and white socks.
