The team has been nicknamed "Danish Dynamite" which originated from a song competition for the official Danish Euro 1984 song. The national team has also been called "Olsen Banden" (The Olsen Gang) in reference to the team's coach Morten Olsen. The team is very famous for its traveling fans, also known as "roligans". The roligan movement was organized right before the 1986 World Cup, in order to support the national team at the tournament. The group declared that they were the opposite of hooliganism and that the objective of their fan club is calm, yet cheerful, support during the games (rolig means calm in Danish). Denmark has been competing in international football tournaments since the mid-1980s, when they started competing in the World Cup and European championships. Their victory in the 1992 European Championships was their most prominent success. In addition, the team won the 1995 Confederations Cup. Denmark was placed in Group F at the qualification games for Euro 2008, along with Liechtenstein, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Spain and archrivals Sweden. Denmark was not one of the teams that qualified from the group. This is the first European championship that Denmark is not participating in since 1980. Denmark's customary home kit includes a red jersey, white shorts, and red socks. Their current away kit consists of a white jersey, red shorts, and white socks. |
