Michael Ballack is a German football player who is the current captain of the German national football team, and plays for Chelsea in the English Premier League. Ballack was born in Görlitz, Saxony on September 26, 1976. His parents sent him to train as a football player when he was seven years old. Ballack had a remarkable skill to use both feet with equal control at an early age. In 1995, Ballack earned his first professional contract with Chemnitzer FC club thanks to his impressive performances in the role of central midfielder. He was called the "Little Kaiser," named after football player Franz Beckenbauer, who was nicknamed "The Kaiser." His professional first appearance was on August 4, 1995 where Chemnitz lost the game 2-1, against VfB Leipzig. Ballack played at fifteen games throughout the season, which was a great success for him, although Chemnitz was transferred to the multi-tiered, regional third division. Ballack's first appearance for the German national under-21 team was on March 26, 1996 in a game against Denmark.
In total, Ballack played 19 matches for the team and scored four goals. After his transfer to Kaiserslautern in the summer of 1997, national coach Berti Vogts moved him up to the senior team. In 2006 Ballack agreed to join Chelsea on a free transfer and played at his first game on July 31, 2006, during a practice match at UCLA's intramural football field. On the following day the club gave him his favored number 13 jersey, which he wore throughout his career.
All Michael Ballack Chelsea and German national team shirts are available in all sizes.
