Villarreal is a Spanish Football Club located in the province of Castellon. Villarreal Club de Futbol is the clubs official name however the team is widely known as Villarreal because of the team’s location. Villarreal plays in the Primera Division of the Spanish football League. The Primera Division is the top division in Spanish football.

Villarreal first originated as a football club in 1923. The club played only in regional games until the 1970 season. 1970 was the first glimpse of Villarreal in the Segunda Division which is the Second Division in Spanish football. The Club stayed in the Second Division for two straight seasons. Until 1992, Villarreal went back and forth between the Third Division and Second Division. The 1992 Season was a turning point for the club when they finally cemented a place in the Second Division. In 1998 Villarreal moved up for the first time to the Primera Division of the Spanish Football League, only to fall back to the Second Division the following year.  During 1999-2000 Villarreal came back with a vengeance and re-joined the Primera Division. From 1999 until today the club has been playing in La Liga des las Estrellas or the Primera Division.

The team is nicknamed El-Submarino Amarillo which in English means the yellow submarines because of the team’s kit. Villarreal wears a yellow kit which includes a yellow shirt, yellow shorts and yellow socks. The club’s away kit consists of a teal shirt, teal shorts and teal socks.
